Representation: blog task

1) List the people, places and groups represented in the poster. E.g. men, women, teenagers etc.
It shows conventional group of teenagers (possibly teenagers) with a mix of both boys and girls, one of the teenagers seem to be armed with a baseball bat in which could be possibly used as a weapon and judging from the background they seem to be on a roof top because of the railing on which they are sitting in and the antenna which is usually placed on-top of houses.

2) Are there any stereotypes you can identify?
There are teenagers in which the loiter on possible restricted premise, from the clothing that they are wearing they seem to be wearing lots of urban clothing including denim jackets, jeans and tracksuits.

3) What is the preferred reading of this poster?
The preferred reading for this poster would be that this particular group of children are gang members who cause lots of trouble and fights as one of them wields a baseball bat which is a possible weapon from the poster they are on-top of a roof of a building, the roof area is usually restricted and they probably might be loitering in a restricted area.

4) What is the oppositional reading of this poster?
The oppositional reading of this would be that they are just harmless kids who have been corrupted by others and were probably abused by many people which made them choose this path of crime and being in a gang, they do these things in order to feel safe and defend themselves and they might need each other in order to survive the street otherwise they would not be alive and together

Extension: What does this poster suggest about British society?

It suggest that most teenagers in Britain act in this specific way and dress like this as it might be a common thing for them to dress act and talk in a specific way, this shows that they may portray them as a corrupt group of young people in which they cause crime and get away with them without any consequences. It shows that they are immature and don't know how to be a sensible group of people.
