4) What are the connotations of the Reveal colour scheme on this particular front cover? they have lots of pink, white, red, yellow and black, this makes it so when the physical copy id put on the shelves then it is easier to identify and spot from it's unique colour scheme that is used.

5) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression).

they use paparazzi photos to show what they really do in their daily life, so they show the truth of the people this is makes it more truthful by them not being ready for the picture so they don't have time to pose or put on make-up, etc this makes it more believable.

6) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Reveal? List at least three and explain the effect on audiences.

Tatler magazines use some serif, especially for their title, it show authority and culture and for the cover lines they use sans serif to show that they are modern , however for reveal magazines they use sans serif for the whole thing to show that it is a modern magazine and so that it is easier to read for them.

Representations

1) What type of celebrities appear on the front cover? How are they represented in Reveal? (Positive? Negative? Reinforcing or challenging stereotypes?)  they show everyday celebrities (celebrities that usually appear most of the time) and they use paparazzi shots to show what they actually do without setting up lighting and poses, etc. this, some are represented negatively, depending on the picture that they are in.

2) How are women represented on the cover of Reveal? Think about both images and cover lines here.

They seem to be mothers of children or are pregnant with them so they show that they may be suffering with what they are doing, it shows motherhood problems which can be complicated for them.

3) How do Reveal and Tatler represent social class? (E.g. middle/upper class and working class)

Tatler targets their magazines to higher class people as inside the magazine they show expensive things likes places to travel and expensive products that include make-up jewellery, etc. these kinds of products show that they cannot be purchased by most working class people  as their income is not as high as higher class people, whereas for more wealthy people can afford it without damaging their income.

4) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Reveal?
The preferred reading would be that they would want them to think that this is a normal magazine some facts about celebrities and how they live their life, they also show how to do things like taking care of your skin, etc.
They just want to help you with you life by showing you secrets and things that celebrities do in order to have a nice successful life so they want to share that information and so their reader keep interesed in what content they are making.

The oppositional reading would be that this is full of gossip and lies and they expose celebrities and want to ruin their corrier by showing bad pictures and examples of what they do and how it effects other people and they want other celebrities to fight with them so they can show the bad things that they do. they also leak dark secrets about them to the public that might completely destroy the celebrity's reputation. This also makes it so that they can be a company that celebrities can go against them.

Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life are reflected in Reveal? How does this compare to Tatler?

Tatler show lives of higher class people or rich people and they also make it so that magazine has a higher price to pay but for the reveal magazine they put their price to an affordable price so that any kind of class can afford their products, reveal displays lives of everyday celebrities and Tatler show models and special celebrities, for example the royal family, etc. they also display expensive products being advertised, Reveal shows things like how people can do certain activities like taking care of your skin, etc.

2) What do the cover lines in Reveal suggest about the issues and lifestyle of Reveal readers?

It talks about celebrities lives and their problems that they usually have, they talk about how certain celebrities have some secrets and lies that they don't want the public to see. They show paparazzi shots to show how they lie about things, for example it show a celebrity doing a "diet " when they are clearly eating some junk food but it also shows that you don't always need to go on a diet to look nice.

3) Find three other front covers for Reveal. What issues or features regularly appear in Reveal?

They usually contain problems about relationships, they include everyday celebrities, they always use the same format of how they layout their magazines, they have promotions, the price tag of 99p and some other things like tips on how to take care of you skin and what to use, the cover lines talk about motherhood problems that they are having as it is making their lives harder, another thing that they talk about would be relationships of how celebrities are breaking up and divorcing and how they reacted towards their fallout, another thing would be diets as on the bottom it displays the words stuff the diet swapping cardio for carbs this shows that people don't have to go on a diet in order to look like a model.

Grade 8/9 extension tasks

1) How does the front cover engage audiences with possible narratives? Look for stories, cliffhangers, dramatic cover lines etc.

2) What are paparazzi images and why are they crucial to the front cover of Reveal?

They celebrity is exposed by them not being ready for the shot, therefore making the picture more honest to the consumers and they also show how they actually behave without the public seeing them, they are seen in a less formal manner.

The cover lines also add an explanation and to hook on the reader so that they gain interest.

4) What do these two magazines suggest about representations of social class in the British media?

It shows that they vary from working class to higher class people for their magazine from the content, advertising and price of the magazine. Another thing would be that it is for strugglers who try to seek some kind of escape and want to break free from their life problems.
